The Storm And The Story Of An Hour Comparison Essay
Kadesha Koen Dr. Fantroy 10-18-17 Comparison Essay ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Story of an Hourâ⬠Katherine Oââ¬â¢Flaherty was born in St.Louis, Missouri on February 8,1850. Katherine was considered one of the first 20th century feminist authors. Katherine evolved most of her work as being an American novelist and a short story writer, also a feminist literary movement artist. When her husband died was really a profound writer. By the age of 49 Flaherty was best known for her novel (The Awakening) also a feminine role book. In 1894 she wrote a short story (The Story of an Hour) another feminist literature short story. Four years later she wrote (The Storm) which was a well known short story. The Storm was a very explicit story, about lovers whoâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Feminism was a woman movement based on the equality of the sexes. ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠showed a way for feminism. Chopin explained gender roles throughout ââ¬Å"The Stormâ⬠. In the short story both women were involved with the same man, but the women were both fully involved in caring for their fa milies. Calix husband did not meet her sexual needs, so she went and got them from someone else. Calix adultery has given her the extra push in life, gave her the freedom she needed. Chopinââ¬â¢s story ââ¬Å"The story of an Hourâ⬠was published when a lot of women were fighting to keep jobs, and fighting to vote. Louise was the perfect wife. Chopin saysâ⬠There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself. There would be no powerful will bending her in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow creatureâ⬠. In the following statement Mrs. Mallard knew she was in a enslaved position. When her husband died she was then free from the enslavement. A lot of women were stuck in domestic situation in the 18th century and early 19th century. Finally, after a lead of gender roles took an impact, I began to notice a type of independence the women had.
